Cerith Wyn Evans: Grace to be born and live as variously as possible...." @ White Cube Hong Kong

This is the second exhibition I visited. This gallery consists of two floors, and is much bigger than the previous I visited. On the first level, were four chandeliers titled 'Gift', 'Raga', 'We are in Yucatan and every unpredicted thing' and 'All Yours' clustering together. These pieces were seemingly a live as their lights were flickering on and off in different pulses. Through the chandeliers creating their own mellifluous language, Wyn Evans hopes to convey the suggestion of a fantastical structure of communication with intimations of an otherworldly presence.

On the second level a large neon text spelling the phrase "Things are conspicuous in their absence..."is spread across the gallery. Wyn Evans points to the capability of language creating moments of ecstasy and rupture and that we as audiences should pay attention to the emptiness between objects, words and things as well as the absence of things. Next to this exhibit is 'Plant Revolution' where three potted plants revolving on three turntables lay in the corner of the gallery. Through this piece, Wyn Evans invites the element of nature and ideas of spacial intervention through a non-technological material into the exhibition. This piece successfully changes the movement through plants into intangible objects that seem simultaneously prop-like, sculptural and real. A further exhibit on the second level is 'Audio Column' which is a Audio spotlight system and amplifier at the same time.

Although the exhibits on the first level made an impact aesthetically, I think that the potted plants on the second level was more inspiring. I  enjoyed 'Plant Revolution' more due to the fact that plants are objects we may come across everyday in life, but we may often neglect that they are just as 'alive' as we humans are.
